Originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jamison (Jamie) Steinke moved to NYC in 2000 to pursue a career with the United Nations as a UN Peacekeeper stationed in post-conflict regions of West Africa. After nearly a decade of service, Jamie has since turned his peace-building focus stateside as a Yoga Alliance E-RYT® 500, YACEP® certified yoga teacher, specializing in Alignment Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, and Yoga for Backcare and Scoliosis. Jamie studies under Alison West at Yoga Union, NYC, where he obtained his 500-hour Teaching Certification in 2016, as well as his 100-hour Backcare and Scoliosis Certification in 2018. Additionally, Jamie teaches Restorative Yoga, Chair Yoga, and Yoga with Wall Ropes and Slings.
A former gymnast and collegiate pole vaulter, Jamie was introduced to yoga in 2003; however, it was in 2014 when he truly began to experience the far-reaching benefits of yoga for emotional health and overall wellness, and more specifically, for scoliosis and chronic back pain.
Through intelligent sequencing and clear, concise directives, Jamie is passionate about sharing what he has learned and experienced in his own body/mind with others. He has a light-hearted approach to his asana practice, with a distinct emphasis on alignment and safety. Jamie teaches students of all ages and skill levels, helping them develop an individualized and comprehensive yoga practice that serves the unique needs of the “whole” person (body, mind and spirit).
